TESTIMONIAL

Daughter Gets Healed Through Intercessory Prayers

Dear PWHS,

I am a very private person and I do not usually share my personal experiences with anyone. One day, while praying, I received an inspired message that I have to share the miracle on how God’s love healed my daughter from a very rare disease. This prompted me to share my testimony to you.

Purita Rellera

It was an ordinary day last July 4, 2000 when my 38-year-old daughter was told by our doctor that a fatty tissue behind her ear should be removed. My husband and I together with my son-in-law accompanied her inspite of her insistence that she can go on her own. We are all confident that it was just an ordinary fatty tissue because we were told that it will only take 30 minutes to remove it. While waiting outside the operating room, I experienced the longest 30 minutes in my life. Every tick of the clock seemed to echo the beat of my heart. After an hour, the doctor came out and gave us the horrifying news that it was more than a fatty tissue. I could hardly breathe while waiting for the words that I didn’t want to hear. Our doctor said that it was a very rare malignant tumor called "spindle cancer cell" and must be removed at once. That instant, everything before me turned to a blank wall. Not my daughter, I told myself. The doctor told us that the operation will take another 4 to 5 hours. Upon hearing this, I rushed to the hospital chapel where I could be in solitude. I was trembling and I wanted to envelop myself with God’s assurance that everything will be alright. I poured out all my fears to Jesus and Mama Mary and I asked that they shield my daughter from this horrifying disease. While praying, I remembered my Carmelite friend Mother Rose. She told me that the holy souls in purgatory are our faithful prayer warriors and can strongly intercede for our prayer intentions. Immediately, I invoked their help to intercede for my prayers. I never prayed like this in my entire life. Together with my family, we stormed heaven with our prayers. I did not want to hear anything more from the doctor. I just gave my full trust to our Divine Creator who is our Divine Healer.

After the operation, we were told that the spindle cancer cell is the type that does not move to other body parts. My daughter has to undergo MRI and other tests. It was at this time that we decided to let her undergo a medical check-up in the States.

On the night of the scheduled check-up, I was home fervently praying that all results will be normal. While still in prayers, the phone rang and it was my daughter at the other end of the line. Then she uttered the words that still echo in my ears, "Mom, everything is okay now. I’m healed. They can’t find anything wrong with me. I’m coming home". I almost melted with joy when I heard those words ... I’m healed. Right there and then, I was on my knees praising and thanking God. I immediately rushed outside, ignoring my husband who asked me to have lunch first. I wanted to thank everyone who was praying for my daughter at that time. I wanted to embrace God and tell the whole world how He loves me and my daughter.

Two years later, I involved myself in distributing Read Me or Rue It to all my friends and in various congregations especially to the Carmelites. My first copy of Read Me or Rue It was given to me by Engr. Miranda of Parañaque who also prints the books for distribution. Then I came to know about the PRAYER WARRIORS OF THE HOLY SOULS. I wasted no time and went to PWHS office in Mandaluyong to get more books. I enlisted myself as a member and from then on, I attend the mass at the Chapel of the Holy Souls at the Manila Cathedral every second Monday of the month. I am also thankful that I was able to attend the Recollection of the PWHS held this month. This has further increased my devotion to the holy souls and realized how they are so much in need of our prayers and how generous they are in helping those who help them.

I feel that my prayers are more effective through their intercession. And because of my deep gratitude to the holy souls, I introduce the prayer of St. Gertrude anywhere I go. During my recent pilgrimage to Europe to thank God for answering my prayers, I led the group in saying the prayer of St. Gertrude in every decade of the rosary. Now, more than ever, I offer prayers for the holy souls to relieve them from their sufferings. After all, they are my faithful prayer warriors.

A grateful soul,

PURITA RELLERA
