The Christophers remember with prayerful respect our countless neighbors who were killed in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.
May God bless them, those who mourn their loss, and all who suffered in the attacks.
In addition, Richard Armstrong, who served as Director of The Christophers from 1969 to 1977, died on June 29th.
The following words from John Henry Cardinal Newman were special to him and, indeed, speak of his gracious, gifted life as they do the lives of all God’s beloved children:
God has created me to do some definite service;
God has committed some work to me which has not been committed to another.
I have my mission – I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next.
I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.
God has not created me for naught.
I shall be an angel of peace. A preacher of truth in my own place.
Whatever, wherever I am, I can never be thrown away.
If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve the Lord;
In perplexity, my perplexity may serve the Lord.
God does nothing in vain. Therefore I will trust in the Lord.
