"Continuing in my usual state, in a little while Blessed Jesus came. Then I, without thinking about it, asked: "Lord, yesterday I went to confession. If I died, since the Confession remitted my sins, would You have brought me straight to Heaven?"
Upon which Jesus said: My daughter, it is true that Confession remits sins. However, the most sure and certain means, in order to escape Purgatory, is love. Thus love must be the predominant passion in the souls. Love in thought, in word, in movements – everything, everything, must be evolved from this love!
"Then Uncreated Love, finding everything to be love, absorbs into Itself created love. In fact, what does Purgatory do except fill the voids of love that are in the souls? Moreover, when it fills these voids, it sends the soul to Heaven. If these voids are not present, the souls aren’t something that belong to Purgatory."
(Excerpts from the writings of Luisa Piccaretta, the Little Daughter of the Divine Will; Vol. 8, July 14, 1907. Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur, May 1992 +S.E. Msgr. Bernadino Echeverra Ruiz)
The booklet "How to Avoid Purgatory" by Fr. Paul O’ Sullivan, O.P. lists 10 items on p. 26, on what to do in order to avoid Purgatory.
They are as follows:
1. Have the express intention of imploring God to grant you a holy and happy death, and no purgatory;
2. Always wish to do God’s Will;
3. Accept and bear all sufferings calmly and patiently for love of God and in penance for our sins;
4. Bear the pains in union with the Passion of Christ;
5. Forgive all injuries and offenses;
6. Avoid mortal sins, venial sins, and break off all bad habits;
7. Do many acts of kindness and charity;
8. Do all in your power to pray for the holy souls in Purgatory, and convince others to do so, too;
9. Have a weekly confession, daily mass and daily communion as effective ways of obtaining from God a holy and peaceful death;
10. Make a daily visit to the Blessed Sacrament.
If one were to read the biographical notes about Luisa Piccaretta, one would come to the conclusion that it will not take long for her cause for beatification to reach the happy conclusion of her eventually being elevated into sainthood. She was one person whose life complied with all these ten items, and more!

Luisa Piccaretta, the Little Daughter of the Divine Will |
Luisa Piccaretta, born in 1865 in Bari, Italy, had the gift of inner locution, which means that she often heard the Voice of the Lord "interiorly", while doing her spiritual exercises, saying her prayers, and in mediation. In 1899, when she was 34 years old, her confessor ordered her to put in writing all that transpired between Jesus and herself. The purpose of this Divinely-inspired command to Luisa, was "to make known the earth which the Sun of My Will has to illuminate in order to form it’s kingdom."
The emphasis on LOVE by the Interior Voice came to her when she was "scolded" because she had been remiss in some of her works. She was said to have heard: "yet you say that you love Me. Where is your love?" As she promised to be more diligent and careful, Jesus added: "I will see; I will see if it’s true… words are not enough for ME. I want works."
The emphasis is to love God, and to do manifest this love in actual works or acts of charity.
And as one goes about during these acts of charity, Luisa Piccaretta’s message from the Lord enjoins the reader to be in perfect submission or in total abandonment to the Divine Will. FIAT.
