INDULGENCE IN HONOR
OF GOD’S MERCY
Inspired by the message of GOD’S MERCY made popular by the writings of St. Faustina Kowalska, Pope John Paul II recently came out with a decree (June 13, 2002) wherein the faithful will be able to obtain a plenary indulgence in honor of GOD’S MERCY on the second Sunday of the Easter holiday.
The Plenary indulgence will be obtained, subject to the usual requirements of confession, repentance, communion, prayer, and acts of Christian piety. A plenary indulgence is a complete remission from the punishment of sins.
The Vatican announced that the decree was signed by Msgr. Luigi De Magistris, a Vatican expert on indulgences, and the Rev. Gianfranco Girotti.
The pope, who has been a devotee of the message of Sr. Faustina, is scheduled to dedicate a new sanctuary in Poland called "GOD’S MERCY" during his trip to his homeland beginning Aug. 16, 2002.
