The sun was out the whole day of Monday July 29, 2002. Something unusual, as during the past weeks, there was hardly a day when it did not rain.

PWHS celebrated the 10th year of its Foundation Day with a concelebrated Mass held at the Manila Cathedral last July 29, 2002 with: (L to R) Msgr. Nestor Cerbo, Rector of the Basilica of the Immaculate Concepcion; Msgr. Pepe Ramirez, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Manila; Fr. Jojo Zerrudo, Spiritual Director of the PWHS.

And so with good weather cooperating, the PWHS core group, Metro Manila coordinators, active members and PWHS friends packed the Chapel of the Holy Souls of the Manila Cathedral, to participate in the Eucharistic Celebration with a concelebrated Mass presided over by Msgr. Josefino (Pepe) Ramirez, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Manila, Msgr. Nestor Cerbo, Rector of the Basilica of the Immaculate Concepcion, and Fr. Jojo Zerrudo, Spiritual Director of the PWHS.

The songs were provided by the choir of the Manila Chapter of the SPIRIT OF LOVE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY headed by Menchie Dioquino, Tony Lapastora (organist), Dolly Malinao, Fely Calderon, Butch Zapitan, Ben Peralta, and Arnie Chua.

The celebration of the 10th year of the Foundation Day of the PWHS continued with a buffet lunch at the nearby Barbara’s Restaurant, the "suki" of the PWHS core group, as this is where the monthly meetings of the core group are held.

The cooks had like to double-up in cooking extra food due to the unexpected turn-out of guests from all over Metro Manila: Marikina, Caloocan, Fairview, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Cainta, San Juan, even from Mindoro.

The programme proper started with opening prayers by Bro. Jun Magat, followed by the Welcome Remarks by Carlos Oda, PWHS National Coordinator. There was an update of the PWHS events: past, present, and future, presented by Chita G. Monfort, PWHS Executive Director.

Rose Baybay (center), super-active PWHS area coordinator at-large is shown with Fr. Jojo Zerrudo (PWHS Spiritual Director) and Chita G. Monfort (PWHS Executive Director) after she received a plaque of recognition.

The hi-lite of the programme was the awarding of Plaques of Recognition to PWHS members who had recruited the most number of members. These were: Aida Santiago for recruiting 423 members in Luzon; Zenaida Ramirez for recruiting 104 members in Visayas, and Virginia Sardea for recruiting 108 members in Mindanao.

Rose Baybay received the special Plaque of Recognition for recruiting the most number of members (479) and for organizing the most number of PWHS outreach programs.

PWHS Spiritual Director Fr, Jojo Zerrudo, in his inspirational talk, provided, as usual, some enlightening insights on the event being celebrated.

Beyond the numbers of members being recruited, he said, is the number of beneficiaries of this apostolate that cannot and can never be quantified in our lifetime. In fact, he said that we will never know the extent of our efforts in helping the holy souls if we are to go after numbers.

The consolation, however, is that such efforts will never go to naught. For it will only be in the afterlife, that the workers in the vineyard of the Lord, will reap their celestial reward.
