The
core group members of the PRAYER WARRIORS of the HOLY
SOULS had its annual recollection and planning session at the BETANIA
RETREAT HOUSE last January 29-30, 2004. Fr. Jojo Zerrudo, Spiritual Director of PWHS,
was the recollection master. His topic was Devotion to
the Sacred Heart of Jesus, as an effective means of renewal,
to address the worsening political and economic conditions of the country.

Fr.
Jojo explained why devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is called the Central
Devotion of the Christian Faith. He said that the reason for this is
because it is all about the interior disposition
of the entire personality of Christ; to be able to know the contents of the
Sacred Heart, is to know about the PERSON of Jesus. He expounded further by
saying that the inner disposition of the Messiah included the following: His
being submissive to the WILL of the Father; His self-sacrificing attitude; His
being sunk in mortal anguish; His being patient in suffering, and His being
hopeful of the final triumph.
It
was a good preparatory exercise for the core group to have received all these
valuable inputs from Fr. Jojo, as the recollection was followed by the planning
session the following day.
The
planning session was facilitated by Ed Villacorte of the Center for Christian
Leadership. The session was composed of 3 parts: The first part was a situationer,
where PWHS Deputy Executive Director Carlos Oda gave the participants an
overview and update as to where PWHS is now, as far as membership, activities
and projects.

The
second part tackled the need list of the
apostolate, which included: a membership in charge to take care of its
growing membership (almost 11,000 members to date in 40 countries); a translator
(Tagalog-English); someone in-charge of ways and means, to ensure adequate
funding for the needs of PWHS; a session to revisit the mission-vision of
apostolate; and a formation program for about 50 active members that will
constitute the personnel resources of the apostolates various activities.
The
third part was a free wheeling discussion where suggestions were brought out
by some participants to make the starter kits
more cost-effective, on how to make the Fore and Aft
more accessible to the members especially those who are computer literate;
and how to improve the activities and projects of the PWHS in general.
As
the 2-day session ended, the participants carried in their hearts the message
imparted by Fr. Jojo: That as one does work in this apostolate, one should make
sure that it is done out of love; the smallest
action when done for the love of the Lord, is already pleasing to the Lord, for
they are actions being offered like incense to the Lord.
