The PWHS AREA in Cuyo, Palawan, celebrated its 1st Anniversary last March 19, 2005, at the St. Augustine Parish Church. Spearheaded by Romel B. Aniar, the activities started at 2:00 P.M. with a Eucharistic Celebration presided over by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Romulo A. Javarez. Later on, Ronel came out with a message exhorting the PWHS members present, to be more involved in the apostolate praying for the holy souls.

After the short talk of Romel, Remy Jaranilla and Mark Joseph Yapparcan helped in distributing starter kits to the newly recruited members. Included in the kits were novena prayers for the holy souls, stampita-prayer of St. Gertrude the Great, prayer to St. Joseph, and information sheets.

Such an activity would not be complete without a merienda-fellowship, which everybody enjoyed, followed by parlor games. Indeed, it was a pretty well-balanced afternoon for one and all.

Romel, a member only since March 5, 2004, is an 18-year old sophomore, taking up Education for Elementary Teaching. At such a young age, he is really showing signs of leadership in this apostolate, having organized this activity without any prodding, but out of sheer love for the holy souls and involvement in the PWHS.

Romel was recruited to the PWHS by Rev. Fr. Jose Morito Delfin.

After the Eucharistic Celebration and merienda, there were parlor games at the back of the parish convent

When Fr. Delfin was assigned to Taytay, Palawan, Romel continued the work of spreading the good word about the PWHS and recruiting more members. He is assisted in his efforts by Kris Ola, Gerald Palay, Allyndel Teodosto, Marinel Caab, Sheree Veniegas, Melissa Gobwete, and Alyssa Juarez.

Cuyo is an island in the province of Palawan, accessible by overnight boat ride from Puerto Princesa or by a 45-minute plane ride.

One added activity that involves most PWHS members in the area of Cuyo is the weekly practice of the group to pray for the holy souls every Saturday, at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Watch this area grow to be another role model area of the PWHS.
