The objective was to be able to develop a speakers’ bureau for the PWHS. This was an idea that was born more than 3 years ago. At that time, whenever there would be requests for PWHS teach-ins, it would either be Fr. Jojo Zerrudo, PWHS Spiritual Director, or Bible Scholar, Bro. Arnold Monera that would come to the rescue. As Fr. Jojo became busier and Bro. Arnold Monera went to foreign shores, something had to be done.

Rolly Leyesa working in earnest on his 15-minute module. |
A PWHS Speaker’s Manual was painstakingly put together by core group member Dohdo Tanbonliong. She used as point of reference, the documented talks of Fr. Jojo, and with the help of core group member Lydia Olaño, PWHS Deputy Executive Director Carlos M. Oda and the PWHS staff, the PWHS Speaker’s Manual was ready to be presented to prospective PWHS speakers.
A campaign was conducted among PWHS members, tapping those interested in becoming speakers for PWHS.
The date was set: Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Betania Retreat House, which is like a second home for the core group (as this is where the annual PWHS planning session and some recollection activities are held), was the chosen venue.

Esther Gacutan in action, during the practicum portion of the training session. |
Six brave souls showed up for the training program. Three of them are core group members Beth Magat, Edna Agustin, and Sixto Vibandor, Jr. These three are already known speakers in the Mother Community of PWHS, namely the SPIRIT OF LOVE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY (SOLCC).
The other three were: Rolando Leyesa, a businessman from Lipa, Batangas. He has been a member for only about two years, and already deeply involved in the apostolate. He has been recruiting a good
number of members for PWHS, buying and distributing the "Read Me Or Rue It" and other PWHS materials. He has the distinct honor of being granted permission by Archbishop Ramon Arguelles of Lipa, Batangas, to encourage and officially promote PWHS in the Archdiocese of Lipa. A very young-looking septuagenarian, his aura is one of peace and serenity. One would find it hard to believe that he has undergone at least four surgeries recently and that physical pain and discomfort are daily crosses to bear. He stayed the whole day that it took (from 9:00am to 5:30pm) and was able to come up with his own version of a 15-minute module for his prospective members. He shared, that the attention span of most of his listeners would only be fifteen minutes at the most, and so that was what he prepared.
The other participant was Esther Gacutan, a businesswoman involved in real estate. She has a smiling face to go with a smiling voice. She is very articulate in both Pilipino and English, and has a very good voice projection. Right away, one could see she could also be tapped to be part of the PWHS anchor team in its Radio Veritas program "Ala-alang Walang Hanggan".

Before calling it a day, the group posed for a photo. Left to right, Chita G. Monfort (PWHS Executive Director); Rolly Leyesa, Carlos M. Oda (PWHS Deputy Executive Director); Esther Gacutan, Lou Peralta, Dohdo Tanbonliong (Trainor and Core Group member); Beth Magat and Jun Vibandor (both core group members and participants); not in photo is Edna Agustin, core group member and participant |
Her keen eyes carefully scrutinized the manual presented to her, and being a matured Christian (10 years into Centering Prayer), had to be satisfied that the materials that she would be using are consistent with teachings imparted to her by her spiritual mentors.
Later on, after accepting the offer to be part of the PWHS anchor team, she shared that it was like going back to an old profession. Years ago, she used to anchor a TV program in Channel 7, during the times of Uncle Bob Stewart. Kaya pala! Ang galing!
The third participant was one of the "early birds". Luisita Peralta was spotted visiting the chapel before going to the training room. A good sign. Sure enough, the Lord sent another gem of a member! Lou works in the Secondary

Division of the Department of Education, in-charge of Curriculum and is a trainor herself! No wonder she was able to put together her own module, under terrific time pressure with materials that were only presented that same morning. Her verbal delivery was beautifully complemented by a power-point presentation in outline form. One could see that she is used to doing these things as in like a "matter-of-fact".
She was very relaxed, also quite articulate in both Pilipino and English, and very good in inter-acting with the audience.
The prospective speakers were assured of the support of the PWHS office in providing them with more reading materials to augment their thirst for knowledge. They went home with a copy of the book "Charity for the Suffering Souls", and a certificate of attendance, attesting to their now being certified PWHS Speakers. Thus was born, the Speakers’ Bureau of the PWHS!
